HP Cuts Prices on Small-Business PCs

Hewlett-Packard announced price cuts of up to 14 percent on its popular Vectra 500 PC series, bringing the street price of an entry-level system to as low as $1,100 (not including monitor).
The Vectra 500 systems, designed to meet small-business needs and to allow easy upgrading, traditionally score well in PC World’s Top 20 desktop PC charts. HP has a solid track record and provides a good bundle of preinstalled business and communications applications.
The HP price cuts follow a price-cutting blitz earlier this week by Compaq on products ranging from portable and desktop PCs to servers and networking hardware.
Some of the discounted HP models include:
- The HP 520 5/133 desktop PC, with 133-MHz Pentium processor, 12MB of RAM, 1.2GB hard drive, and 256K cache for $1108.
- The HP Vectra 525 MCx 5/166 minitower PC, with 166-MHz Pentium processor, 16MB of RAM, 1.6GB hard drive, 8X CD-ROM drive, 256K cache, and 28.8-kbps fax/data/voice modem for $1787
- The HP 525 MCx 5/200 SBC, with 200-MHz Pentium processor, 32MB of RAM, 8X CD-ROM drive, 256K cache, and a 28.8-kbps fax/data/voice modem for $2576.
