In an aggressive bid to gain wider market share, Compaq on Monday unleashed a price-cutting blitz on products ranging from portable and desktop PCs to servers and networking hardware.
Officials of the Houston-based company said the price reductions are also part of the PC giant’s overall push to drive down the total cost of ownership for corporate users.
We want to provide value and, on the heels of an excellent earnings report, we expect this action to help us continue the success we had last year as the number-one market-share leader, said James Schraith, vice president and general manager of Compaq.
Compaq cut prices by as much as 17 percent on its Deskpro 2000, 4000, and 6000 desktop PCs and by up to 27 percent on selected Armada 4100 and LTE 5000 notebooks.
