TSP Companies Aim to Help Web Browsers Trace Their Steps

Web surfers without an elephant’s memory can rest easy thanks to Web-Recall, which TSP Companies will announce next week.
Set to ship in March, Web-Recall will let users with a Web browser click a Recall button to log URLs during surfing sessions. The function serves as an in-house library for retrieving and indexing Web sites of interest, TSP officials said. They did not disclose pricing.
The product may prove more popular with IS managers than with users, however. The data retrieved, such as categories, notes, and user-defined keywords, can later be searched by others on the corporate network. The product also includes two features that prevent wayward or frivolous browsing.
Secure Browser allows the system administrator to set parameters and restrict specified clients from accessing certain sites. The Backward Glance tool creates an audit trail of all captured sites that a user visited, so that system administrators can locate a URL or access the order in which the user arrived at each address.
Web-Recall works with browsers including Netscape’s Navigator and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, as well as ODBC databases from Microsoft and Sybase. It runs on operating systems including Windows NT and NetWare.
