Corel to Reduce Level of Communicator Integration–For Now
September 10th, 2007
Corel Corp. yesterday announced that its upcoming WordPerfect 8 and Office Professional suites will not include all of the functionality of Netscape Communications Corp.’s Communicator client software.
Corel in mid-January announced an agreement with Netscape to integrate Communicator with the WordPerfect 8 and Office Professional application suites.
WordPerfect 8, which is going into beta testing this week and is expected to ship in May, and Office Professional 8, expected to ship in July, will include only the personal information manager capabilities of Communicator, including a calendar, a scheduler, an address book and a card file, officials said.
Corel officials said additional Netscape Communicator components will be available for integration into the office suites as they are released in the second quarter. Those components include the Navigator browser, Messenger e-mail tools, Collabra groupware tools, the Composer HTML-based editor and Netscape Conference module for audioconferencing.
